Before we look at where Western philosophy began, I want you to think about your own “life philosophy.” You will write 300–450 words on this subject.
Consider the following questions:
- What is the nature and purpose of existence?
- What do you believe to be most important? What do you most value?
- What beliefs and values motivate you and shape your choices?
- What beliefs shape your interactions with others and with yourself?
As you write your personal philosophy, consider each of the three areas of philosophy (metaphysics, epistemology, and value theory) discussed in Lesson 1.1.
