Assessment Description 1:

In a formal role, a nurse may hold a position of leadership as a nurse manager or a charge nurse. Nurse managers are responsible for overseeing the nursing staff, managing budgets, setting policies, and ensuring that patient care is delivered effectively. A charge nurse is responsible for delegating tasks to other nurses, overseeing patient care, and ensuring that nursing protocols and policies are followed.

The educational preparation required for a leadership role in nursing is a formal education in nursing, such as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree. Apart from the academic preparation, a nurse leader must possess certain leadership traits, styles, or qualities. These leadership traits include strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, critical thinking skills, and a positive attitude.

Nurse leaders must be able to interact effectively with a diverse group of people, including patients, other medical professionals, and administrative staff. They must be able to motivate their team members to work collaboratively towards the common goal of providing excellent patient care.

Leadership qualities that align with a Christian worldview include the ability to serve others and to be compassionate towards those in need. A good nurse leader must be able to put the needs of their patients first and work towards ensuring that they receive the best possible care.

Assessment Description 2:

As a leader, it is essential to use advocacy strategies to create positive change in my current workplace. A leader can advocate for patients, staff, and the organization as a whole. One strategy for advocacy is to actively listen to concerns and suggestions from team members and work to incorporate them into the organization’s policies and procedures. Another strategy is to collaborate with other healthcare professionals to improve patient outcomes and promote excellence in patient care.

In the past, I provided leadership in advocating for patient safety in my workplace. I worked with my team to identify areas where safety could be improved, such as implementing hand hygiene protocols and ensuring that all equipment was in good working condition. As a result, we were able to reduce the number of patient safety incidents and improve patient outcomes.

In hindsight, I could have involved more team members in the planning and implementation of these strategies. By including more people in the process, we could have generated more significant buy-in from the staff, resulting in a smoother and more effective implementation. Nevertheless, I am proud of the outcome and will continue to advocate for patient safety and quality care in my workplace.
